Green River is a community of low rise row housing surrounded by green space. In a multi-phase project, PLACE provided a cost/ benefit analysis of various approaches to expansion and renovation of the buildings, design proposals for improving the open spaces, and a design for a new community center targeting LEED Silver. This building will accommodate drop-in daycare, a computer lab, classrooms, administrative offices, meeting and service spaces for staff and the community. The building is designed with durable, cost effective materials presented in an elegant, playful way; and it is sited to take maximum advantage of local solar access, prevailing winds for passive ventilation, and community bicycle and pedestrian access.
